How Random Pickers Work—and When Not to Use One
Understand browser randomness, equal and weighted selection, and the limits of casual random tools.
From random numbers to choices
A picker generates a number within a range and maps it to an option. Hmm, Pick! uses the browser cryptography interface and rejection sampling so every valid index has the intended probability.
Weighted choices
A weighted picker divides the range according to each multiplier. A weight of three receives three shares for every one share assigned to an option with weight one.
What the animation means
The wheel animation displays a result; it does not create fairness by itself. The important parts are the random source, option mapping, and rules agreed before the draw.
Know the limits
This is a casual decision aid, not an audited lottery system. Do not use it for gambling, regulated drawings, safety decisions, diagnosis, legal strategy, or major financial choices.
Put it into practice
Example: with four equal entries, each occupies one of four possible positions and has a 25% chance. With weights 1, 1, and 2, the total is four shares, so the third entry has a 50% chance. The animation illustrates the chosen result; the probability comes from the selection process.
Random tools are for low-stakes choices where every listed outcome is acceptable. Keep consequential decisions human.
